Prayers/Special Intentions

Why Should We Pray?

Prayer is a means of communication between you and God. Prayer is, if you like, a direct line to God. Like a mobile phone that allows you to make calls to anywhere at any time, prayer is your permanent means of communication with God. Prayer is available to all who believe in the power of the resurrection of Christ and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior. To Christians, prayer is their means of sharing their hopes and fears, their joy and sorrows with God. It is also a means by which they express adoration and praise to God their Father.  Pray for yourself--and for others--every day.

Thanks to Bishop Muench, there will be a number of "Station Churches" set up throughout the Diocese during Lent so Catholics can find any number of locations for pre-Easter confession. On five consecutive Wednesday evenings–February 24th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th–the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered from 6-8 pm at 17 regionally located parish churches. If you have been reluctant to come to the Sacrament or have been away from the church for some time, or you just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession, this is a great opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance. If you’re anxious about preparing for the sacrament, the priest confessors will be there to welcome and direct you. We’ll also have brochures in the back of all churches of our diocese to guide you in preparing for the Sacrament, in addition to helpful information in The Catholic Commentator and on our diocesan website: www.diobr.org. There is no more powerful way to "jump start" your spiritual life this Lent than by receiving the grace of Reconciliation!

Reconciliation:  Try any of these locations throughout the Diocese of Baton Rouge:

St. Aloysius, Baton Rouge                                                                         St. Joseph, Paulina

Prayer After Death of Loved One

Saints of God, come to his/her aid! Come to meet him/her, angels of the Lord! Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High. May Christ, Who called you, take you to Himself; may angels lead you to Abraham's side. Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High.

Give him/her eternal rest, O Lord, and may Your light shine upon him/her forever. Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High. We commend our brother/sister, (Name) to you, Lord. Now that he/she has passed from this life, may he/she live on in Your presence.

In Your mercy and love, forgive whatever sins he/she may have committed through human weakness. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

              ~Amen

MORAL LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

for your children. How will they remember you when you're gone?

A woman was sharing information she had learned about another.

The priest said, "For penance, I want you to go home, take a pillow up on your roof, cut it open with a knife, and return here to me."

So the woman went home, took a pillow off her bed, went up the fire escape, and stabbed the pillow.

"Did you gut the pillow with the knife?" he says. "Yes, father". "And what was the result?". "Feathers, everywhere!" So the old priest told

her, "Now I want you to go back and gather every last feather that flew out on the wind".

"Well", she said, "It can’t be done. I don’t know where they went. The wind took them all over."

"And that", he said, "is GOSSIP."
