Just Say NO! |
As you probably know, Archbishop Aymond put out an appeal last Sunday at Mass asking that we “take action against the latest HHS (Health & Human Services) mandate” that would require (effective Aug. 2012) all private health care plans (including Christian churches, hospitals, homes, etc.) to offer and pay for coverage for sterilization procedures, abortifacients, and contraception. His letter was circulated through every parish in our province.
Our Catholic Bishops believe that these practices violate the First
Amendment. Our newly-appointed Cardinal-designate Dolan said: “To
force Americans to choose between violating their consciences and
forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable. . . It is as much
an attack on access to health care as on religious freedom.”
The email states: “Please co-sponsor the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179). This measure ensures that the rights of conscience of all participants in our nation's health care system will be respected.” NOTE: The boxes marked "opening" and "closing" on that email screen can be used if you want to personalize your message to Congresspersons.
